SRI KALPATARU PUJA

on 1st Jan 2019 from 6:30 pm

Kalpataru puja is celebrated on Januray 1st every year. The word Kalpataru is referred to the divine desire fulfilling tree, the kalpavriksh. Thakur Sri Ramkrishna is worshipped as an avatar on this day.  It was January 1st 1886 the first Kalpataru day, when Sri Ramkrishna’s followers believed that he was an avatar, a Kalpataru who could cure diseases and fulfill the desires of his devotees. Sri Ramakrishna was suffering from some illness at that time, and his health was declining. He and his closest followers had moved to a garden house in Cossipore, a neighborhood in North Calcutta. Sri Ramkrishna took a walk in the garden in the morning of January 1st that year. There, he asked one of his devotees, Girish; a question he had often asked before, "Who do you say I am?"  Girish responded that he believed Ramakrishna was "Bhagavan incarnation, come to Earth out of daya (mercy) for humankind”. Ramakrishna then replied, "What more shall I say? May you be awakened with Vimala Gnana.” Sri Ramakrishna Paramahansa then later entered into a samadhi state. In that ecstatic state he showered blessings on his devotees. He touched some devotees and graced them. Many devotees also bowed down and touched his feet.  Those who were touched expressed experiencing a variety of new states of consciousness, including divine visions and darshan of Kali. Later, one disciple named Ramachandra Dutta, explained that Ramakrishna had become a Kalpataru, also called Kalpavriksha,  the "wish fulfilling tree in the heavens”.  As a result of this Bhagavat mahima this day was named a Kalpataru day and celebrated as an utsav by the devotees and followers of Sri Thakur Ramkrishna Paramhansa. The Utsav also consists of Puja to Ramkrishna, and Mother Kali as he was kali’s own child. Kali puja is a puja (worship) to Mother’s Love to her entire creation. Today Sri Kalpataru Utsav is celebrated worldwide in Mandirs, Shakthi temples, Kalibaris, Ramkrishna mission centers, yoga centers, Belur Math in Dakshineshwar, Kolkata and many more. All devotees and sadhakas of Sri Divine Mother Kali worship and offer respect to Thakur Sri Ramkrishna paramhansa on this day as well as other siddha Purushas and Gurus and receive blessings of Mother Kali. May all devotees be awakened with the blessings of Kalika with Kalpataru puja at Sree Vijaya Kali Ashram.
